Twelve fireworks shows over Broad Creek across the summer, almost all of them on Tuesdays. Free to watch, difficult to park for, easy to bike to.
Shelter Cove Harbour runs HarbourFest through the summer, and the part visitors plan around is the fireworks. The 2026 season carried twelve shows: Tuesdays through June, July and into mid-August, plus a Saturday show on July 4. The first went up on June 9 and the last on August 18.
The entertainment starts long before the fireworks. Shannon Tanner, who has been playing this harbour for decades, does two family sets in the early evening, usually around 6:30 and 8:00. Cappy the Clown works the harbour front through the same window. The fireworks go up when the sky is properly dark — which in late June means close to 9:30 p.m., and by mid-August is noticeably earlier. Nobody publishes a firing time, because the sun does not cooperate with schedules.
Everything is weather-permitting, and drones are not allowed during the shows.
The shells are fired over Broad Creek, not the ocean. That matters in two ways: the harbour front gives you a low, close, water-level view rather than a distant one, and because the display is on the creek side of the island it sits well away from the nesting beaches, where bright light in season is a genuine problem.
The harbour boardwalk near the Neptune statue is the obvious spot and fills first. The marsh boardwalk and the lawn areas around the shops work nearly as well with more room. If you have a boat, the creek itself is the best seat in the house, and on show nights it looks it.
Shelter Cove parking fills well before the first set finishes, and the lot empties slowly afterwards. Three better options: ride the pathway in and lock up, walk over from anywhere in Palmetto Dunes or the Shelter Cove side of William Hilton Parkway, or arrive by 6 p.m., eat at the harbour, and treat the whole evening as the plan rather than the fireworks as the plan.
Watching costs nothing. That is worth saying on an island where most evening entertainment does not.
