Getting to Hilton Head
Hilton Head Island AirportHHH

On-island, off Beach City Road at the north end, and small enough that you walk from the gate to the kerb in two minutes. American Eagle flies Charlotte year-round with seasonal service from a handful of East Coast hubs, and Delta Connection adds seasonal routes. Fares run well above Savannah's and the on-site rental fleet is limited, so reserve a car when you book the flight.

The practical gateway for most visitors: more airlines, far more fares, and a straight run up I-95 to Exit 8 then east on US-278. Budget extra on a summer Saturday, when the last four miles across the bridges can take as long as the first forty.
Charleston International AirportCHS
105 mi · about 125 min by road
Roughly two hours north. Only worth it if the fare difference is large or you are stringing Charleston and Beaufort onto the same trip.
US-278 bridges (Karl S. Bowers and J. Wilton Graves)
The island's only road link, carrying US-278 over Mackay Creek and Skull Creek from the Pinckney Island causeway. Two lanes each way and no alternative, which is why Saturday rental turnover backs traffic up onto the mainland. SCDOT and Beaufort County are designing a replacement for the eastbound span; construction is still years out, but check for lane closures before a peak-weekend arrival.
Cross Island Parkway
The bypass that arcs south across Broad Creek from William Hilton Parkway to Sea Pines Circle, saving roughly fifteen minutes to the south end. It was a toll road for two decades; SCDOT stopped collecting on 30 June 2021 and the plaza has been removed. Older guidebooks and rental-house binders still tell you to bring cash. You do not need it.
Daufuskie Island ferry
Daufuskie has no bridge. Passenger ferries cross from Broad Creek Marina on Hilton Head to Freeport Marina on Daufuskie in roughly 45 minutes, running year-round on a schedule that thins outside summer. No cars make the crossing, so arrange a golf cart, a bike or a guided tour on the far side before you sail.
